Are you tossing and turning all night and you certainly don’t want to get up and start the day with a smile? One of the possible reasons is that your body can’t relax completely as you can’t find a comfortable position to lie in, one that is supportive in all the main places such as knees, hip, waist and neck. One possible solution to this problem is to buy a queen memory foam mattress – but this is a quite expensive variant , so how about buying a memory foam pillow, mattress topper, or a memory foam sofa mattress in the instead ?

Designed for NASA in the 1970′s, memory foam was meant to give comfort for astronauts at ascend and landing, it didn’t become available in the stores until the 1990′s. Since that time the market has grown and is still growing rapidly, especially as the sphere of medicine recommends its usage for relieving back pain and pressure sores. Regardless of the fact that the first producer was Tempur-pedic ® and used mainly in hospitals, the company eventually found out that people who lay on the foam, slept better, and they expanded manufacture to be available to everyone. Since that time other manufacturers have created their own memory foam goods . The most powerful manufacturers now are China and the Far East, but be cautious of foam products made outside of the United States.

How does it give you help to sleep? Memory foam is visco-elastic which means that it responds to temperature change by growing softer when it is hot and firmer when it is cool . In plain words, your body heat softens the corresponding area of memory foam and it adjusts to contours of your body . A word of warning here – with the less expensive , lower density foams, the foam can grow as hard as a board when the it is really cold or it might turn into far too soft on hot summer nights. The more expensive brands are much more likely to perform in the right way through any changes of temperatures.

If you’re still not quite sure why not get a foam pillow or a memory foam pad instead of that . Most companies offer a selection of goods and the most progressive ones offer a trial period and longer warranties as well so that if the item doesn’t please you, you can hand it back.

How to choose a memory foam mattress? There are differences in the way mattresses are manufactured so it is important to find out from a retailer how they are put together and which type of construction will suit you best. Rule of thumb – mattresses can either have three or four inches of memory foam over a denser supportive layer . More thickness isn’t necessarily right either as you might sink in too far before reaching the core layer ! If you sleep on your front you need to get 2 inch (5cm approx.) foam, side sleepers and medium sized people should buy a foam memory mattress with three inch (7.5cm approx) foam and heavy people or back sleepers should buy the four inch (10cm approx).

There are of benefits but what about the disadvantages? Why wasn’t memory foam used by NASA? Foam is a man-made product that gives off gases when new . In your home it lasts for a very short space of time, but could have been a hazard in a space capsule! Nonetheless, if you are sensitive to this type of gas, you should think about finding a natural product like a foam latex mattress.
